Your progress lives in your own browser

A class needs no account. What that means for your data is short enough to read in full.

What is stored when you take a class

Taking a class stores your progress in your own browser using localStorage. It sits under one key named tenurable.v1 and it holds the classes you finished and the questions you answered and your final scores.

That data never leaves your device unless you sign in. Clearing your browser data deletes it and there is no copy to restore it from.

What is stored if you sign in

Signing in is optional and it exists so your progress follows you to another device. It uses a link sent to your email address. There is no password to choose and none is stored.

  • Your email address.
  • Which classes you finished and on what date.
  • Your final scores and any certificate issued to you.
  • A session cookie that keeps you signed in on that device.

What a certificate holds

A certificate carries the name you gave it and the course and the month it was issued. That is what anyone checking the id at the verifier can see.

Use whatever name you want a reader to see. The id is signed so a certificate cannot be edited after it issues.

What the site itself records

The site runs Google Analytics. It records which pages you opened and a short list of actions. Those actions are finishing a class and passing a final and coming back after a day away.

It never records your name or your email or anything you typed into a question. There is no advertising here and nothing on this site follows you to another one.

Google Analytics sets its own cookie so it can tell one browser from another. Block it and every class still works exactly the same.

The hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs of requests including the IP address they came from. Those logs exist to run the site and to stop abuse of the certificate route.

Who else sees it

Your data is never sold and it is never shared for advertising. It is never used to train a model.

Three providers hold data because the site runs on them. The host serves the pages and keeps the logs. The database holds your account if you made one. Google Analytics holds the page and action records described above.

How long it is kept

Browser progress lasts until you clear it. Account data lasts until you ask for it to be deleted. Server logs are kept for a short period by the host and then rotated out.

A certificate id stays valid after an account is deleted so that anyone holding the id can still check it. Ask and that record goes too.

What you can ask for

  • A copy of everything held against your account.
  • Correction of anything wrong in it.
  • Deletion of your account and everything in it.
  • Deletion of a certificate record along with it.

Email [email protected] and you get a reply the same day.

Children

Tenurable is built for working adults and it is not directed at children. No account should be created for anyone under 16.
